"Merry Christmas" from Wal-Mart

November 9, 2006

Wal-Mart has made public its permission, given to employees, to wish holiday shoppers, “Merry Christmas” and its intention of including the greeting on its products. While I do not think secularism is made any more complete by the supposedly neutral substitute, “Happy Holidays” (which nevertheless includes the religiously charged phrase “holy days”), it’s interesting that the story hits the press two days after the Democrats took over Congress.

CNN has the story.
