What an exciting time in the Church! Pope Benedict XVI has proven to be incredibly interested in shaping and forming the Catholic conscience in all things socio-political, giving special attention to issues in justice. From his careful, yet forceful remarks on immigration to his insistence on the Catholic’s charitable and political activities in Deus Caritas Est, this Pope is showing Catholics that the faith is not exhausted in practice by private devotion or time at Church. Social justice, political involvement, ministering to the sick, forgotten and forsaken–all of these belong firmly in the life of the Catholic in whatever capacity he/she may be capable of contributing.
