No Ambiguity, No Apology for Brownback

March 16, 2007

How wonderful to have a Catholic politician speaking on behalf of and not against his own faith!

As General Peter Pace begins to back peddle, senator and presidential hopeful Sam Brownback (R-KA) unabashedly declared in a letter addressed to President Bush:

“I do not believe being a homosexual is immoral, but I do believe homosexual acts are. I’m a Catholic and the church has clear teachings on this.”

Brownback also called the firestorm of criticism Pace received “both unfair and unfortunate…In fact, we applaud General Pace for maintaining a personal commitment to moral principles.” Before the letter is sent to President Bush, Brownback’s office is attempting to garner signatures from other lawmakers.

Compare Brownback’s clear and unequivocal statement to the sidestepping done by Barack Obama (D-IL), Hilary Clinton (D-NY), John McCain (R-AZ) and Mitt Romney when asked this week whether or not they supported General Pace or agreed with his remarks.
